The Poverty Bay Club, or PBC as it is locally known, is in the heart of town and is the heart of Gisborne.
Once a gentleman's club, the PCB is now home to a bustling Cafe 1874, Winston's Bar, an arts and crafts store and the fabulous Dome Cinema. The Poverty Bay Club was built in in 1898 according to the classic 19th century provincial style. Today the Poverty Bay Club remains is a historically valuable landmark. The club was formed in 1874. Since its formation the Poverty Bay Club and its buildings have weathered numerous social and environmental upheavals, including fires, earthquakes, and the eventual introduction of women in 1988.
