Walk to the Mountain Safety Council Hut in Matawai Forest, and from there follow a compass course off-track to meet the Quarry Track. Complete the loop back to the vehicles along the Quarry track and a short road walk.

Sunday, May 6th: Rawiri Station, Tahora Road, Matawai [M]

Leave 7.30am

Cost - $25

Contact - Kay Bayley 867 8311, [email protected]

A 12km, 4 – 5 hour, loop walk on Rawiri Staion. Starting at the woolshed it’s a steady 300m climb to the top of the farm where on a clear day you get great views of the district and beyond. Once at the top it is relatively flat walking out to the back of the farm then across to the edge of the bush before returning to the main track leading back down to the wool shed.

Sunday, May 20th: Rangatira Station, Te Karaka [E-M / M]

Leave 8.30am

Cost $10

Contact - Geoff 862 5710, [email protected]

This is a repeat of a trip of 2-3 years ago. Rangatira is attractively planted with many trees, and it is hoped this time to do the walk to take advantage of autumn colours. Lying between the Waipaoa and Wairoa Rivers, part is on the ridgeline between the two valleys and a (optional) climb to the trig for 3600 views, part by the Waipaoa River. Most of the walking is on farm tracks. A shorter route is available.

 Tuesday, May 29th, Whangara [E - M]

Leave 8am

Cost -  $10

Contact - Stuart 868 5418, [email protected]

A circuit route, open country, great views. Need to bring warm clothes as can be brisk. Will stop off and see the test wind turbine. May have to walk down road back to start.

Sunday, June 3rd: Paringahau Station, Te Karaka [M]

Leave 8.30am

Cost -  $10

Contact - Gillian 867 4591, [email protected]

The walk on Paringahau Station suggested by Peter Holdsworth would start at a bush remnant, climb up onto a ridge, and complete a circuit ending with walking along a farm track back to the vehicles. About 5 hours of walking.

Tuesday, June 12th: Gaddums Hill - Darwin Road, Gowerville Station [M]

Leave 9am

Cost -

Contact - Gillian 867 4591, [email protected]

A half day circuit walk, up Gaddums Hill Road, then returning via farm tracks along ridgelines to Gowerville Station on Darwin Road. Walk back along Darwin Road beside the Waimata River.

Sunday, June 17th: Poariki Station, Pehiri [M]

Leave 8am

Cost - $15

Contact - Gillian 867 4591, [email protected]

A round trip of 9km following a track beside a stream, to a 13ha bush remnant with some large trees, which is a QEII covenant, then back through open country.

Tuesday, June 26th: Te Kuri a Paoa (Young Nicks Head) and Mapere Beach [M]

Leave 7am

Cost $10

Contact - Gillian 867 4591, [email protected]

The walk to the trig on Te Kuri a Paoa involves a very steep climb initially, then it is up and down along the steep cliff edge - about 3 hours on this part. After this, we are planning a circuit walk on Maraetaha Station from Mapere Beach to Mapere Point, and back along the cliff tops – again about 2 - 3 hours for this section.
