The walk on Paringahau Station suggested by Peter Holdsworth would start at a bush remnant, climb up onto a ridge, and complete a circuit ending with walking along a farm track back to the vehicles. About 5 hours of walking.

Leave 7am

Cost - $10

The walk to the trig on Te Kuri a Paoa involves a very steep climb initially, then it is up and down along the steep cliff edge - about 3 hours on this part. After this, we are planning a circuit walk on Maraetaha Station from Mapere Beach to Mapere Point, and back along the cliff tops – again about 2 to 3 hours for this section.

Sunday, July 8th: Linburn Station, Waimata Valley [E - M]

Leave 9am

Cost - $10

There can be spectacular views from the highest points on the farm - great place to stop for lunch. About a 7k walk, steep in places. Mostly on farm tracks, about half out in the open, half through trees.

Tuesday, July 17th: Turihaua Station to Christopher Road and Pouawa River [M]

Leave 8am

Cost - $4

Contact - Gillian 867 4591, [email protected]

Along the ridges from Turihaua Station, following farm tracks and forestry roads to Pihitia Station, then Christopher Road back to SH2.

Sunday, July 22nd: Moumoukai, Morere, [M]

Leave 9am

Cost - $8

Contact - Gillian 867 4591, [email protected]

The start of this walk is part way down the Morere Hill at Mangatoto Station. We walk along a sidling and gently climbing track leading to a lime quarry before climbing 250m to the summit of Moumoukai (612m), on Moumoukai Station. This is a prominent hill with rock outcrops above the Nuhaka River overlooking the Morere - Nuhaka area. We could have a hot soak at Morere after the walk ($14 for entry).

 Tuesday, July 31st, Cooks Cove Walkway [E - M]

Leave 8am

Cost - $8

Contact - Bill 06 261 5037, [email protected]

The track climbs through light bush and across open grassland, keeping mainly to a farm track just below the cliff tops to a lookout point. Cooks Cove consists of a sheltered inlet with the weather-beaten Mitre Rocks standing to the left of the entrance and Pourewa Island rising up on the right.

The track winds down through regenerating bush to the coastal flats of the cove, the hole-in-the-wall (Te Kotere o te Whenua) and the New Zealand Historic Places Trust 1966 memorial, commemorating Cook's visit. About 6km walking.
