The Department of Conservation runs programmes to protect and restore our native species, places and heritage, and to provide opportunities for people to engage with these treasures. Conservation campsites are wonderful places to relax, enjoy and explore the great outdoors. DOC manages more than 200 campsites throughout New Zealand. You can choose from forest settings, islands, lakeshores and sandy beaches. DOC managed tracks also enable the public to explore many hundreds of kilometres of bush trails by foot or cycle. DOC parks and reserves include some of the country's most precious and spectacular natural sites.
