There is about 9km of winding river between the bridge over the Waimata River at Goodwin Road and Anzac Park, including several rapids as the river drops over papa ledges. From the “Hole in the Wall” the river is tidal, and with low tide at 11.30am, we will paddle this section on a falling tide. Some kayaking experience is necessary – you need to be able to steer your kayak across the river to avoid obstacles and shoot the rapids, and be able to steer it to go consistently downstream in the lower section. We will only do this if the river conditions are suitable.
