Gisborne District Council owns and manages three theatres, War Memorial Theatre, Lawson Field Theatre, and the Gisborne Soundshell as well as the Patutahi Community Hall.

War Memorial Theatre
159 Bright Street, Gisborne
The Gisborne War Memorial Theatre had its origins as a dance hall, and was redeveloped in 2015 into a state of the art 500-seat theatre. We seat 362 in the Stalls and 138 in the Circle. Fully air conditioned, with licensed bar.

Lawson Field Theatre
7 Fitzherbert Street, Gisborne
The Lawson Field Theatre is Gisborne’s beloved “little theatre”, home to countless local theatrical and musical productions, conferences, meetings, functions and events. Lawson Field Theatre reopened in September 2019 after earthquake strengthening and improvements to box office, back of house, and Rose Room.

Gisborne Soundshell
87 Centennial Marine Drive, Gisborne
The Gisborne Soundshell is a grassed natural acoustic bowl with a permanent stage, dressing rooms, toilet blocks, and box office. Located at Midway Beach, the Soundshell hosts many large public events and shows. Capacity of up to 15,000.

Patutahi Hall
20 Biggs Street, Patutahi
The Patutahi Hall is a community hall located 15km from Gisborne city.
