Maunga Hikurangi Te Urunga Tu Sunrise Tour

At 1,752 m (5,748 ft) tall, Maunga Hikurangi is the highest non-volcanic peak on the North Island and the first place in the world to see the sunrise. Rising above the rural community of Ruatoria, Maunga Hikurangi is a site of cultural significance for the Ngati Porou people. It is believed to the first part of Aotearoa New Zealand that emerged from the sea when Maui fished up the North Island. Locally guided our visitors are transported by 4WD UTV to “Te Takapau-a-Maui”. A sacred site with nine Maori carvings that depict the stories of Maui, the Polynesian adventurer, famous for his legendary deeds.
