Eastwoodhill Arboretum is the National Arboretum of New Zealand, home to more than 131 hectares of native and exotic trees, shrubs and climbers. First planted by Douglas Cook in 1910, it holds the most comprehensive collection of Northern Hemisphere trees south of the equator , a living legacy of global botanical diversity.

The best way to experience Eastwoodhill is on foot. With walking trails to suit all fitness levels , from gentle, tree-lined paths to steeper tracks with sweeping views over the arboretum and surrounding hills — there’s something for everyone. Along the way, keep an eye out for some of the 40 bird species that call Eastwoodhill home.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy a picnic under the trees or stay overnight in our peaceful onsite accommodation. Options include a self-contained studio with a private bathroom, a twin room, and two bunk rooms that each sleep eight. All linen is provided, with shared kitchen and communal facilities available. Meals can be arranged through a local catering partner at an additional cost.

Eastwoodhill offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature, learn about global plant diversity, and unwind in a truly special part of Tairāwhiti.
