The northern gateway to Tairāwhiti and the iconic State Highway 35

Ōpōtiki sits at the edge of the Bay of Plenty and borders the northern gateway to Tairāwhiti was one of the first places settled by Māori and is in rich Māori culture and history.

It is also the access way to the iconic State Highway 35 - a stunning coastal journey around the East Coast with fantastic fishing spots, swimming and surf.

Visit the Ōpotiki i-SITE Visitor Information Centre for useful travel advice, learn about local heritage at Ōpōtiki Museum, head inland to jet boat up the Motu river or enjoy a bike ride along the Motu Trails – taking in the beautiful and fertile landscape dotted with kiwifruit and avocado orchards, and even a macadamia nut farm to boot!
